Eclecticism in the interior: combining incongruous

The word "eclecticism" in Greek means "choosing", and it is this meaning that determines the essence of the direction of the style with this name. A complex combination of different and sometimes even completely opposite and incompatible in the artistic sense, style and origin of the elements for the design of such an interior is a regularity. Not every person in such a room will be able to feel comfortable, because at first glance an eclectic-style apartment may seem chaotic and sometimes tasteless, but this direction of design thought finds its connoisseurs, which allows eclecticism to be at the peak of popularity for more than a century .

And if you take a good look at the interior of each of us’s dwellings, you can find things that carry the spirit of the past and fit perfectly into the overall picture, even though they come into conflict with new-fashioned elements, which in principle is an eclectic style and stands out from many others . Combining incongruous is the main task for decorating an apartment in an eclectic style.

The basic rules of interior eclecticism

In order to achieve a harmonious combination of seemingly completely different and conflicting things when creating an eclectic style in the interior, you need to follow the simple rules that all designers use when designing such an interior.

First of all, all furniture should be combined in color, and sometimes to achieve greater harmony and texture of the finishing material. It is the combination of shades that plays a huge role in the perception of space as a whole. Even if these are contrasting colors, they need to be compared in such a way that all the furniture in the room, whether it’s an old ottoman or a new-fashioned armchair, looks like one big picture with many interesting details.

The same applies to all textiles in the room: curtains, curtains, decorative pillows, bedspreads - all these elements must be in harmony with each other. It is worth noting that all these components in an eclectic style are most often saturated colors, and are decorated in an oriental style.

Eclecticism in the interior is good for perception only if all the rules are observed in the room, while an excessive number of decor elements and furniture of different styles and time will make the space heavier and make it messy and uncomfortable.

Eclectic colors

The principle of a smooth transition from a delicate shade to bright colors - this is the color that eclecticism accepts. At the same time, it should be noted that only natural tones should be used, the gamut of which depends solely on the tastes of households. In the bedroom, it is best to give preference not to catchy colors that will not hurt the eyes, but in the living room it is ideal to use bright and sometimes even sharp contrasts. For example, relaxing chairs and a bright sofa will be in perfect harmony with each other if you complete the combination with pillows of the corresponding colors. Small bright accents can be entered somewhere in the background in the design of the curtains, or you can hang a picture on the wall in the same catchy colors.

Walls and ceiling

As a rule, the walls and ceiling in an eclectic style are decorated in soothing colors, they can be plastered and painted, or wallpaper can be used in the design. However, this does not completely exclude the possibility of creating any panels or contrasting finishes. For example, the blue ceiling will look perfect with light walls, on which you can place a panel of wallpaper and wall plinth. Hand-painted walls will look great here. You can also decorate the walls by laying them with tiles with oriental ornaments.

Floors

For the floor, a win-win option will be parquet or tile. However, as a coating for an economical option, you can use linoleum or laminate with simulated parquet. Carpets are a prerequisite for decorating eclectic-style floors. It can be both modern carpets, and retro-style walkways with various floral or geometric patterns.

Eclectic-style furniture - a touch of eras

The contact of eras and styles makes the eclectic style special. Here you can not give up expensive pieces of furniture, the only thing you need is to decorate your favorite mirror, armchair or coffee table so that it fits harmoniously into the interior.

And even if you have to change the upholstery or paint the frame, whether it be a chair or a chest of drawers, the antique furniture will look particularly beautiful and, in addition, will carry the energy of the past. In such an interior, next to a modern leather sofa, a cabinet with carved, curly-legged doors that is inherited is easy to fit. This combination will not only add charm, but it can also become a real highlight of the whole room.

Decorative elements

The decor in the apartment in an eclectic style can be the most diverse. Given the features of this direction, a variety of objects will ideally fit into the atmosphere: vases, paintings, photo frames, figurines, candlesticks and other trinkets.

It is also worth noting that lamps can also become an excellent decoration of a room. For example, a large crystal chandelier with many pendants, from the light of which small rainbow overflows “run” along the wall and ceiling. Also a good addition to this picture will be different floor lamps and unusual lamps.

Particular attention is paid to the design of windows, where massive draperies, pickups, fringe and brushes with glass beads are nowhere appropriate.

Eclecticism as a way to preserve things dear to the heart

Eclecticism in the interior is an ideal direction for lovers with independent and free views on the world around them, for people who appreciate rare things and are in no hurry to part with them, acquiring something new-fangled for their home.
