Types of ceramic tiles

Ceramic tile is a burnt mixture of clay, minerals and sand, coated with glaze, which makes it possible to obtain products of any color, texture, texture, with a variety of ornaments, patterns. Ceramic tile is the most common finishing material.

Ceramic tiles are divided into two types:

  1. Unglazed tiles - almost uniform throughout the thickness and most often do not have decorative patterns;
  2. Glazed tile - has an upper, relatively thin layer of a glassy structure - the surface is different from the base of the tile and provides a visual effect (gloss, ornament, color). Also, mechanical properties are inherent to surfaces, for example, such as water resistance and hardness.

As a result of the application of various starting materials, from different technological processes, different types of ceramic tiles are produced.

Widely used types of ceramic tiles

  • Metlakhskaya

It is fired twice and glazed. This tile looks great on the walls of bathrooms and kitchens. Strong enough, resistant to external influences

  • Majolica

Traditionally used double firing tiles. It is used for cladding walls of toilets, bathrooms, kitchens and hallways

  • Cottoforte

Obtained on the basis of pastes (extrusion method). Thanks to double firing at low temperatures, this tile has significant strength and resistance to stress, so it is often used for floors

  • Cotto

It features a porous structure. Usually this tile is not enameled. It has a different shape: rectangles, squares, rhombuses, hexagons

  • Clinker

Mostly clinker types of ceramic tiles are obtained by extrusion, as a result the material acquires high strength and it becomes possible to obtain a clinker of complex geometric shape. It is used for floors, indoor and outdoor, socles, pool decoration. Depending on operational loads, tiles of increased thickness are used. Due to high abrasion indices, resistance to weathering and temperature changes, some types of clinker are used for facing terraces and entrance groups on the street

  • Porcelain Tiles

This tile is resistant to frost, temperature extremes, aggressive chemical environments. Widely used for interior cladding in residential and industrial buildings, for facade cladding. No special care required. It has a wide range of colors, textures, sizes. This finishing material, due to its characteristics, will last much longer than other types. This is one of the best ceramic tiles.

How to choose the best ceramic tile

The tile, which has low permeability and a non-slip surface, is perfect for the bathroom and kitchen. Ceramic tiles may not be the most expensive, but always high quality. For example, for bath lining, the standard rate of water absorption should not exceed 7%, resistance to chemicals - A, AA. When considering floor tiles for a bathroom, it should be taken into account that the wear resistance indicator is not the main one, since the throughput and load of the floor covering in the bathroom are minimal, therefore, the abrasion for this tile can be of the first or second class.

The best ceramic tiles can be classified as such leading brands as Jade Keamika, Keramin, Kerama Marazzi - Belarusian production. "Falcon" - Russian tile. Read more about how to choose a tile here.
